About the SIG

Who we are

LLM4ABM is the Large Language Models for Agent-Based Modelling Special Interest Group. We explore the latest trends in applying LLMs within the context of Agent-Based Modelling (ABM), and we have been an active community since the summer of 2024.

The group was founded by Peer-Olaf Siebers (University of Nottingham, UK). Since December 2025, LLM4ABM has also been a Special Interest Group of ESSA, the European Social Simulation Association.

Our mission

Our core focus is the role of LLMs across the full ABM modelling cycle. We examine how LLMs can support every stage, from conceptual design through to implementation, validation, and communication of results. We also discuss the potential for LLMs to transform qualitative knowledge into explicit behavioural rules, decision processes, and other artefacts that enable the development and execution of agent-based models.

What we do

Everyone is welcome

Newcomers and experts alike are welcome to join us. As a member, you will receive invitations to our monthly discussion meetings, and gain access to our JISC discussion group repository.
